Jose Ricardo “Ricky” Romo 87, passed away at his home in Albuquerque on September 16, 2025. Jose was born on September 16, 1938, in Anton Chico, New Mexico, to Justo and Estella Castillo Romo.

Ricky honorably served in the United States Army. He enlisted early at 17 years, becoming a Missile Specialist for four years. After his discharge from the US Army, Jose married his wife, Lugie Martinez of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Together they welcomed two daughters, Darlene Baca and Yvonne Brusuelas, and one son, Dennis Romo.

Ricky was a certified master automotive mechanic, certified through Luna Vocational Technical Institute. He was an instructor of Automotive repair at Las Vegas Robertson High School and Santa Rosa High School. After his retirement, he spent his days enjoying things he loved to do. He loved to fish the eastern New Mexico lakes with his close friends. He served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico and nearby villages around Anton Chico.

Ricky is preceded in passing by his parents, Justo and Estella Castillo Romo. His brothers, Serafin Romo, Gilbert Romo, and Manual Romo. His sister, Adelaida Romo Maestas.

Ricky is survived by the love of his life, Lugie Martinez Romo. His daughters, Darlene Baca and husband Gerald, Yvonne Brusuelas and husband John, and son Dennis Romo and wife Dasha. His sisters-in-law, Vicentita Gutierrez and husband James, Jeannette Duran and brother-in-law Adolfo Martinez, and wife Lorraine. Rick’s grandchildren are Jonathan Brusuelas and wife Jamie, Terran Park and husband Dennis, Ryan Brusuelas and wife Jessica, Gerad Baca, and Diego Romo and wife Sarah. Rick’s great-grandchildren are Aiden Waters, Avery Fuller, Payton Fuller, Payton Park, Makayla Waters, Elliana Brusuelas, Sofia Romo, and Rosie Romo. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Visitation will be prior to funeral services, on Monday, September 22, 2025 from 9-10AM at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico, NM.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, September 22, 2025 beginning at 10AM at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico. Reverend Timothy Meurer, with Father Antonio Mondragon concelebrating, will officiate the service.

Burial, with full military honors, will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at 11AM at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, with Deacon Marvin Marquez officiating the service.

Pallbearers will include: Jonathan Brusuelas, Terran Park, Ryan Brusuelas, Gerad Baca, Diego Romo and Ben Mendez. Honorary Pallbearers are: Martin Ortega, Benny Lucero, Leroy Sandoval and Dennis Park.
