Jose Roland Urban, 74, of Santa Rosa, NM passed away on May 13, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on February 28, 1952, in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, to Jose Roberto and Antonia C. (Gonzales) Urban, Jose lived a life marked by dedication, service, and deep love for his family and community.
Raised in Santa Rosa, Jose attended St. Rose Catholic School and graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1970. He honorably served in the United States Navy in the Vietnam War, demonstrating his commitment to his country. After his military service, Jose pursued a hardworking career as a mechanic and truck driver, always striving to provide for his loved ones. He later contributed his dependable and caring presence as a caretaker at Santa Rosa High School.
As a devout member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa, Jose’s faith was central to his identity and daily life. He was admired for his quiet strength, profound spirituality, and unwavering dedication to his beliefs. Furthermore, Jose was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Jose cherished time spent with family and friends, finding joy in simple moments such as relaxing at fishing ponds and sharing precious time with his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Munchie. These heartfelt connections reflected the genuine appreciation he held for life’s meaningful blessings.
He is lovingly survived by his daughter, Sharla M. Trujillo (Mario) of Santa Rosa; his son, Jose R. Urban (Noel) of Santa Rosa; and Tammy Gonzales, mother of his children, also of Santa Rosa. His legacy continues through his many grandchildren: Aislyn Romo (Joaquin) of Santa Rosa; Mario Trujillo Jr. (Jaide) of Melrose; Tristin Trujillo (Josh) and Jason Trujillo, both of Santa Rosa; Josh Lopez (Jordan) of Albuquerque; Breanna Lopez (Daniel) of Tucumcari; Isaiah Lopez; and Jalyn Urban of Santa Rosa; as well as his great-grandchildren Khai Lopez and Briella Trujillo.
Jose is also survived by his siblings Robert Urban (Darlene) of Rio Rancho; Ruben Urban of Albuquerque; Richard Urban of Oklahoma; Mary Lou Tapia (Ernest) and Elvie Urban, both of Santa Rosa; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who cherished his presence.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents Jose Roberto and Antonia C. Urban, sister Anna Urban-Madrid, partner Lupe Baca, best friend Munchie, sisters-in-law Patty Urban and Pat Urban, nephew Joseph Higgins, and Angel Forcum.
A Rosary, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 1 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa. In tribute to his life and enduring impact, the urn bearers will be his grandsons Mario Trujillo Jr., Jason Trujillo, Josh Lopez, Isaiah Lopez, Josh Gonzales, and Joaquin Romo.
Jose Roland Urban will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family, faith, and community. His memory will live on through all those whose lives he touched so deeply. May he rest in eternal peace.
Services are under the care of Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa, New Mexico.
