Josefina Martinez

Josefina Martinez, beloved homemaker and cherished family matriarch, passed away unexpectedly on November 14, 2025, at Guadalupe County Hospital. She was born on July 11, 1936, in Santa Rosa, NM, to Leandro and Ignacia Pacheco. Josefina was known for her deep love of family, vibrant creativity, and dedication to her community, serving as a devoted parishioner at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Josefina was a nurturing soul who found immense joy in her role as a homemaker. Her passions included arts and crafts, as well as sewing, where she provided warmth and love through every stitch. Her creativity was matched only by her unconditional love for those she held dear. She dedicated her life to her husband, Tommy Martinez, Sr., and their daughters, Lillian C. Romo of Santa Rosa, Allyson M. Martinez of Lubbock, TX, and Camillia (Ricky) Muñiz of Santa Rosa, and her brother: Ernest Pacheco of Albuquerque, NM.

Throughout her life, Josefina enriched the lives of her grandchildren: Ricky Blea of Santa Rosa, Melissa Blea of Las Vegas, NV, Ricardo Muniz, Jr. of Santa Rosa, Jocelyn Chavez of Lubbock, Amber Chavez of Grand Prairie, TX, and Heather Mendoza of Lubbock. Her legacy of love continues through her great and great-great-grandchildren: Robert Castillo, III of Las Cruces, NM, Anna Rodriguez of Ruidoso, NM, Jacquelin Mitchell, Marshall Dillon Mitchell, Diego Alvarez, Davion Velez, Kian Mendoza—all of Lubbock—and Preston Muñiz, Aria Muñiz, Jordyn Muñiz, and Carter Muñiz—all of Santa Rosa, as well as numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends whose lives she touched.

Josefina is now reunited with her son, Tommy Martinez, Jr., who predeceased her in 2014, and her granddaughters, Renee R. Castillo in 2017 and Tara Martinez in 2020. She is also preceded in death by her parents; Leandro and Ignacia Pacheco, and her siblings: Clara Romero, Mary Gutierrez, Lucia Gutierrez, Maggie Gutierrez, Gilbert Pacheco, Louie Pacheco and Severo Aragon.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be held on November 18, 2025, starting at 6:00 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on November 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St. Rose of Lima, with Father Jacob Romero officiating.   Josefina will then be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa, with Ricardo Muñiz, Preston Muñiz, Anna Rodriguez, Louella Gutierrez, Ricky Blea and Nelson Kotiar serving as Pallbearers.

Services are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa, 923 S. Third St., Santa Rosa, NM 88435.  575-472-3369.
