Josefina Roybal, beloved matriarch and devoted family member, passed away peacefully at her residence in Santa Fe, NM, on January 15, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on May 3, 1935, in Santa Rosa, NM, she was a cherished daughter of Jose and Dilia (Velasquez) Pacheco.
Josefina, known affectionately by many, dedicated her life to her family as a homemaker after marrying Augustine Roybal in Clovis, NM, in 1955. Together, they built a life filled with love and nurturing support for their children and grandchildren. Following her husband’s passing in 2018, she continued to be a guiding light for her family.
A devout Catholic, Josefina was an active parishioner at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Santa Fe, where she drew strength and comfort from her faith. She was known to enjoy helping care for her grandchildren, relishing every moment spent with them and her family. Her passion for life was celebrated through her joy of dancing and listening to New Mexico Spanish music and her love for cooking, sharing her culinary delights with those she loved.
Josefina is survived by her loving children Connie (Daniel) Mares of Tucumcari, NM; Liz Morris of Bernalillo, NM; Debra (Cruz) Mendoza, Joann (Oscar) Loya, Gus (Sandra) Roybal, Guy Wayne (Renell) Roybal and daughter-in-law, Michelle Roybal —all residing in Santa Fe, NM. She leaves behind a legacy of 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous nephews, nieces, family, and friends who will forever hold her memory dear.
Josefina is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Augustine Roybal, her son Michael Roybal, her son-in-law Jamie Morris, as well as her siblings: Mela Perea, Dilia Ulibarri, and Richard Pacheco. Each of them contributed to the rich tapestry of her life, and their memories remain a part of her enduring legacy.
Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary will be held in her honor on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 6:00 PM, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. The Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 10AM at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa. Josefina will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Santa Rosa, with Brandon Roybal, Matthew Mares, Isiah Loya, Mark Roybal, Jason Roybal and Jonathon Naranjo serving as Pallbearers.
