Juanita Chavez McIntosh

Juanita (Chavez) McIntosh, 47 of Puerto De Luna, NM, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026 at UNMH in Albuquerque following an illness. She was born January 25, 1978 at DeBaca General Hospital in Fort Sumner, NM.

Juanita is a 1996 graduate of Santa Rosa High School, she attended the University of New Mexico where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry and her Master's Degree in Enviromental Science. She returned to Santa Rosa and worked as a Correction's Officer at the Guadalupe County Correctional Facility for 8 years. For the past 22 years Juanita was self employed as a Tax Preparer for many Guadalupe County families. She also worked as the Billing Clerk for the Puerto De Luna Domestic Water Department for 3 years. 

Juanita married Alfred McIntosh on April 16, 2005 in Puerto De Luna. She was a member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Puerto De Luna, NM.

Juanita is preceded in death by her mother, Martha Louise Chavez on October 9, 2021, and her grandparents Antonio and Magdalena Chavez, great uncles Joe Marquez and Johnny Marquez, great aunt Esmeralda Zamora, and 3 cousins Jason Marquez, Ernest Marquez, and Robert Wayne Marquez.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred McIntosh of the home in Puerto De Luna, NM, a step-daughter Melissa Alvarez of San Jon, NM, four step-grandchildren Ivan, Anabelle, Benjamin, and Dorothy Alvarez. Also surviving are three great aunts, Theresa Encinias of Las Vegas, NM, Rose Lopez of Santa Rosa, and Lucy Chavez of Santa Fe, her uncles, George Marquez of Santa Rosa, Robert Marquez of Clovis, and Juan Chavez and his wife Barbara of Fort Sumner along with many cousins and good friends.

A memorial service will be held 2 pm, Saturday, January 10, 2026 at the Chavez Funeral Home Chapel in Santa Rosa, NM with Deacon Marvin Marquez officiating.
