Lucy Props

Lucy Props, 79 of Fort Sumner passed away at her home Thursday, August 09, 2018 following an illness. She was born June 5, 1939 in Montezuma, Colorado to the home of Preciliano Cornelio Garcia and the former Maria Cleofas Martinez. Lucy attended Catholic school in Lumberton, NM and graduated as Salutatorian from Dulce High School.Lucy married R.L. Props on July 19, 1958 in Lumberton, NM. They made their home in Fort Sumner. Following R.L.'s sudden death in 1978, Lucy worked as the Cafeteria Manager at Fort Sumner Schools until 1996. She also worked cleaning the Methodist Church from 1979 until 1996.Lucy was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner, a member of the Fort Sumner Senior Citizen Advisory Council, and member of the Fort Sumner Eagles Organization. She enjoyed painting with oils, playing cards, Bingo at the Senior Citizens, and drinking coffee with her friends at Addison Drug Store.She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband R.L. Props in 1978, a sister Mary Lucero, and two brothers Ralph Garcia, and Jose Ignacio Garcia, and three infant siblings.She will be dearly missed by her family, three daughters Linda Sena and husband Deacon Edward Sena of Fort Sumner, Marcia Nygren and husband Bryan of Carlsbad, Lisa McMath and husband Scott of Fort Sumner, two sons Jack Props and wife Anna of Vaughn, and Erick Props and wife Cristi of Lubbock, TX, and a nephew, Wesley Propps who she raised during his high school years. Also surviving are two brothers Preciliano Garcia of Albuquerque, Amos Garcia of Bloomfield, and one sister Lollie Palmer of Lumberton. Other survivors include 16 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.Visiting hours will be Friday from 1pm-6pm at the funeral home and on Saturday will begin at 11:30 am at St. Anthony Catholic Church until service time. A rosary followed by the funeral Mass will begin at 12:30 pm Saturday, August 11, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fort Sumner with Father Sotero A. Sena officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Mark Sena, Adam Sena, Luke Sena, John Sena, Tanner Nygren, Travis Nygren, Trevor Nygren, John Props, Ryan Props, Brad Props, and Skylar McMath. Honorary bearers will be her granddaughters Rusty Fisher, Justyne Tibbs, Autumn McMath, Payton Props, and Caylee Props.All arrangements are under the direction of Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N.
