Margaret Tompkins

Margaret Tompkins, 80 of Tucumcari, NM, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret was born November 5, 1944, in Tucumcari, NM to Darrel D. Hornsby, Sr. and Henrietta (Shrewsbury) Hornsby. Margaret was raised in Albuquerque, NM where she also attended school—graduating from Cibola High School. Following high school, she attended Eastern New Mexico University.

In her career, Margaret worked in road construction and as a florist. She was a member of The First Baptist Church in Tucumcari, where she helped teach vacation bible school. In her spare time, Margaret enjoyed riding horseback, being outside and gardening. She loved helping Britt with her show goats, and she loved her dog, Maggie—who always stayed by her side until the very end. Margaret will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cared deeply for her daughter Shelly, granddaughter Britt, and great-grandson Kaden James (Doodles).

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, a son: Jimmy Van Doyal and husband: Marshal Scott Tompkins.

Margaret is survived by her children: Shelly Annette Brockman and husband: Clint and Clinton (Rooster) Tompkins and wife: Misty, a granddaughter: Brittni James Brockman and husband: Tyler Drumm, great-grandson: Kaden James Drumm, siblings: Joye Clubine and Darrell Deene Hornsby, Jr. and wife: Shelia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

A graveside service will be Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 2PM at Tucumcari Memorial Park in Tucumcari. Pallbearers will include: Brittni James Brockman, Clint Brockman, Tyler Drumm, April Burns, James Lott, Clint (Rooster) Tompkins, Colton Padilla and Justin Phipps.
