Maria Amelia Archibeque, a beloved member of the Vaughn community, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Born on October 17, 1950, in Vaughn, NM, Maria was the cherished daughter of Juan Andres and Soledad (Armijo) Archibeque. Her journey began in the very town that shaped her heart and spirit—a place where she would leave a lasting impression through her dedication, kindness, and unwavering love for family.
Maria’s early life in Vaughn was grounded in strong roots; she attended school in her hometown and proudly graduated from Vaughn High School. These formative years nurtured in her a deep connection to her community, one that blossomed into a lifelong commitment to service. Professionally, Maria worked diligently as a housekeeper for various motels in Vaughn, a role she embraced with pride and care. Her innate kindness extended beyond work, as she volunteered tirelessly at the Vaughn Senior Center, an organization she was deeply devoted to as a member. Her service there reflected her generous spirit and desire to uplift those around her. Furthermore, Maria was a devoted parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vaughn.
Outside of her professional and volunteer endeavors, Maria had a tender passion for sewing and crafts. She was known for her beautiful handmade blankets, each stitch crafted with love and thoughtfulness for her family. These tangible expressions of warmth and comfort mirrored the nurturing nature she embodied in her daily life.
Maria’s life was enriched by her close-knit family, who were the light of her days. She was a treasured mother to her daughter Helen Baca, who shares a loving bond with her husband Anthony. Maria’s joy extended to her grandson, Jacob Baca, who brought immense pride and happiness to her life. She was also surrounded by her siblings—Maria Lindahl (Bill), Teresita Sena, Maria Munoz, Virginia Archibeque (John), and Ramon Archibeque (Diane)—each a testament to the strong family ties that Maria held dear. Her goddaughter, Monique Archibeque, and many nephews, nieces, extended family members, and friends were equally cherished, each benefiting from Maria’s kindness and warmth.
Maria was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Juan Andres and Soledad Archibeque, whose memory she honored through the loving family she helped nurture. She also mourned the loss of her siblings Tom, George, Nancy, Jane, Frankie, and Raymond Archibeque, whose lives remain forever intertwined with hers.
Maria Amelia Archibeque’s life was one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and heartfelt service. She touched the hearts of all who knew her with her generous spirit, her skilled hands, and her comforting presence. As she leaves this world, her legacy endures in the warmth of the blankets she made, the lives she touched through volunteerism, and the love shared within her family. Her memory will continue to be a gentle guide and a source of comfort to all who were fortunate to know her.
