Michael Nathaniel Gutierrez, 26 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 08, 2021 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM. He was born in Clovis, NM on April 28, 1994 the son of April Jean Lopez and Andy Julian Gutierrez. Michael grew up in Fort Sumner where he attended school, graduating with Fort Sumner High School Class of 2013. Following high school Michael attended a semester at Hobbs Junior College. He began working in the oil fields where his specialty was building Blow Out Preventers and monitoring oil rigs.. He worked for Madrin Oil Services, Cavalos, Cajun Oil Services, and Close Loop Services. Michael enjoyed playing basketball with his friends, they gave him the nickname "Ocean". He liked to workout, and exercise but spent most of his time playing with his nieces and nephews. He was a member of The Church On The Hill in Fort Sumner. Michael is preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother Elisia Lopez, his paternal grandparents Pedro and Viola Gutierrez, and an infant cousin, Jasper Lopez. He is survived by his mother April Lopez of Fort Sumner, his father Andy Gutierrez of Fort Sumner, three brothers Rojelio Robles (Angel) of Fort Sumner, Eddie Gutierrez (Rachelle) of Fort Sumner, Braidon Gutierrez of Fort Sumner, one sister Florence Andrews (Anthony) of Everett, Washington, his maternal grandparents, Robert and Norma Lopez of Fort Sumner, nieces and nephews Nicoles, Daejon, Alyshah, Madeline, Lyndon, Marley, Leviathon, Aryiah, and Junior, his god-parents Phillip and Nancy Lopez of Clovis along with a host of other relatives and many friends. Due to the current NM Department of Health COVID-19 Pandemic Social Distancing guidelines, services will be limited to the family. We kindly ask that you keep Michael and his family in your prayers. You may leave a tribute, share a favorite memory, or sign the online guestbook. Visitation hours for family and friends will be held from 1pm to 6pm on Friday, February 12, 2021. We are limited to 5 persons at a time in our building, face masks are required. Services will be held at The Church on The Hill in Fort Sumner with Pastor Anna Teeter-Gentile and Mr. Richard Terrell officiating. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Mario Carroll, Estevan Chavez, Nikko Carroll, Avery Hernandez, Corey Idtensohn, Arnold Cash, Brandon Chavez, Patrick Espinosa, and Santiago Lopez. Honorary bearers will include Braidon Gutierrez, Tim Mascarenas, Angel Espinoza, Ricardo Gamez, Ron Carroll, Johnny Lucero and Isiaha Garcia.
