Naomi Nell Gunn, 88, of Fort Sumner passed away at her home on Saturday, August 22, 2026 surrounded by her family. She was born December 11, 1937 in Taiban, New Mexico to the home of Willie and Zelma Gammill. She was the first girl and would be known as Sis to her other 8 siblings. Naomi attended elementary school at Taiban, and then transferred to Fort Sumner Schools where she graduated with the FSHS class of 1956.
Not even a month after graduation she married, G.A. Gunn on June 2, 1956 in Fort Sumner. The two spent their first years as newlyweds in Hanau, Germany where G.A. was stationed with the U.S. Army. They returned to the Fort Sumner valley in 1958 and began a farming operation, where they would raise their three children Kim, Brenda, and Clifford.
Naomi worked as a secretary for Farm Bureau, and as office staff for her sister Dr. Joyce Roberts medical clinic. She also worked for a time at Teeter's Department Store, for G13 Feed Store, and for many years at Cortese Feed and Supply.
Naomi was a member of the Fort Sumner Church of Christ, where everyone looked forward to one of her homemade pies at potluck. She was part of the Fort Sumner Bowling League, Taiban Gardening Club, 4-H Chapter leader, and was in charge of the Christian Services Center ran by the Church of Christ.
Naomi enjoyed playing dominoes, cooking, baking, making Christmas candy, and canning. She also spent alot of time taking care of her yard, her flowers, and her vegetable garden. She enjoyed watching her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids play in sporting events. She loved to watch three generations show livestock in County and State Fairs. She looked forward to going on family hunting trips up in the mountains, where she cooked meals over the campfire. She was always ready to host family holiday gatherings, and Sunday lunch at her home. More than anything, Naomi loved the time she spent with her family and being Memaw to her grandkids, and great-grandkids.
She is preceded in death by her parents Willie and Zelma Gammill, one infant sister Ellen Marie Gammill, her husband G.A. Gunn, one grandson Colten Gunn, and one son-in-law Mark McCollum.
