Sam Sena, 65, of Fort Sumner, NM passed away Friday night, March 16, 2018 at University Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. Sam was born February 17, 1953 in Fort Sumner to the home of Mariano and Romana (Romero) Sena. Sam grew up in Fort Sumner where he attended and graduated from Fort Sumner High School, class of 1972.Sam worked alongside his father for several years as a carpenter in building construction. He later worked in the cafeteria at Fort Sumner Schools for 11 years. Sam volunteered at Peers In Touch youth center for many years. He was a member of The Church on The Hill where he served on the worship team as the tambourine player, and assisted with the Children's Bible School program. Following high school, he served on the town basketball team, he loved watching sporting events, and attended Fort Sumner Vixen and Fox sporting events, and later when his nephews moved to Clovis, he became a Wildcat supporter. His favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. When at home he enjoyed gardening, caring for his houseplants, and playing cards with his friends and family.Sam is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Tim Sena and Michael Sena, three sisters an infant Dorothy Sena, Betty Sena, and Cecilia Sena, and a nephew Chris Sena.A loving brother, uncle, and friend, Sam will be dearly missed by his sister Dorothy Pacheco (Paul) of Fort Sumner, two brothers Richard Sena (Gloria) of Fort Sumner, and Gerald Sena (Sarah) of Clovis, twelve nieces and nephews, Rachel Kaylor (Kerry) of Albuquerque, Brent Sena (Camilla) of Albuquerque, Matthew Sena of Carlsbad, Renee Reed (Mike) of Valdosta, GA, Maxine Coronado (John) of Valdosta, GA, Paul Sena of Minneapolis, MN, Tanya Conness (Trenton) of Springfield, MO, Sarah Sena (Rory) of Springfield, MO, Mike Sena of Tucumcari, NM, Joshua Pacheco of Amarillo, TX, Ezra Sena and Noah Sena both of Clovis, a special cousin and friend Lydia Nieto of Fort Sumner along with many special cousins, other family members, co-workers, and friends.Visitation hours will be held Thursday from 1pm to 6pm at the funeral home. The funeral will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, March 23, 2018 at The Church on The Hill with Anna Teeter-Gentile officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Fort Sumner Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lennard Sena, Josh Pacheco, Ezra Sena, Mike Sena, Brent Sena, Noah Sena, George Romero, Ronald Sena, Paul Sena, and Matt Sena. Honorary bearers will include the Fort Sumner School cafeteria staff, his P.I.T family, AAU Wildcat Basketball family, and Vidal Gauna.The family requests contributions in Sam's memory to Peers In Touch (P.I.T.)
