Sammie Rae Weatherford, age 87, of Fort Sumner, New Mexico passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at her home following an extended illness. She was born December 1, 1938 in Lancaster, California to the home of Samuel and Minnie (Ferguson) Serratt. She grew up and attended schools in Sudan, Texas.

Sammie was a member of Fort Sumner Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, watching TV and caring for her great-grandchildren.

Sammie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Weatherford, a daughter Beth Truman on February 8, 2026, a great-granddaughter Mary Gamble, and a brother Jim Serratt.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She will be missed by her family, a son in law and caregiver for the past 20 years, Dennis Truman of Fort Sumner, NM, two daughters Jo Johnson of T or C, NM, Michelle Ransom (Brian) of Republic, Missouri, four sons, Allen Ladd (Josie) of Mantua, New Jersey, Larry Ladd (Linda) of Rio Rico, Arizona, James Weatherford (Tanja) of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, and Calvin Weatherford of T or C, NM, three brothers Robert Serratt (Lois) of Eustis, Florida, Johnny Serratt (Colleen) of Farr West, Utah, Michael Serratt (Marcy) of Fort Smith, Arkansas, one sister Kay Woodward (Bill) of Melrose, New Mexico. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends including her Church of Christ family.

Cremation will take place. A memorial graveside service will be held at a later date at Sudan Cemetery, Sudan, Texas.
