Sherry Lou Peterpaul

Sherry Lou Peterpaul, 71 of Fort Sumner, NM passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 6, 2020 in Fort Sumner following a sudden illness. Sherry was born March 18, 1948 in Fort Sumner, the daughter of Birdie Dee and Louise (McClain) Smith. She grew up in Yeso where she attended school. She graduated from Fort Sumner High School in 1965. Sherry married Tony Peterpaul in Roswell, NM on March 11, 1969 where they made their home until 1977. They made their home in Elida, NM from 1977-1989, moved to Portales from 1989-1992 before settling in Fort Sumner in 1992. Sherry worked as a custodian at First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner for the past 20 years. She loved her work and took great pride to ensure the facility was kept clean. Sherry was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she loved her duties as a member of the bereavement committee. For many years she enjoyed bowling and was a member of a local bowling league. She traveled with her bowling friends to state competitions. Sherry was a loving mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her grandchildren, attending all their school school activities, sporting events, locally and out of town, and travelling with Jordan to barrel racing events. Sherry is preceded in death by her parents B.D. and Louise Smith, her husband Tony Peterpaul on November 20, 2011, and two brothers Richard Smith and Mac Day Smith. She is survived by a daughter Lori Hisel and husband Lewis, a grandson, Garrett Hisel and granddaughter Jordan Hisel all of Yeso, NM. Also surviving is a brother David Smith and wife Dana of Roswell, NM and a sister Sandy Copeland of Fort Sumner, and a sister in law Katy Starbuck of Clovis, NM, along with her First Baptist Church family, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 16, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Fort Sumner with Dr. Joe Bunce officiating. The family requests memorial contributions in memory of Sherry Peterpaul to First Baptist Church, Kitchen Committee, Fort Sumner, NM 88119 or Fort Sumner Cemetery Association, P.O.
