Sonia Monette Griego

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Sonia M. Griego, 55, of Tucumcari, NM, who passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on September 21, 1970, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, Sonia was the daughter of the late Robert Griego. A 1988 graduate of Tucumcari High School, she dedicated over 20 years of her professional life to law enforcement as a Corrections Officer. Her dedication, devotion, and strong work ethic were evident in everything she did. In her retirement, she enjoyed arts and crafts, watching "The Bold and the Beautiful" and "General Hospital," and cheering for the Carolina Panthers.

Sonia was preceded in death by her father, Robert Griego; her grandparents, Mike and Virginia Griego; and Pablita M. Lopez.

She is survived by her mother, Rosenda Griego; her siblings, Roberta Lopez (Joseph), Georgia Griego, Barbara Griego, Priscilla Griego, and Angel Griego (Angela); her best friend and sister, Elizabeth Jaramillo; and a special niece, Alexis Jaramillo. She also leaves behind her nephews and niece, Joseph Lopez Jr. (Patty), Robert Lopez Jr., Angel Griego Jr. (AJ), and Alyshia Griego, as well as her dear friend, Adam Jimenez.

Sonia will be remembered for her faith, compassion, and profound love for her family. Her legacy of care and strength will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, March 31, 2026 from 1-6PM at Chavez Funeral Home in Santa Rosa, NM.

Services will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Saint Ann's Catholic Church in Tucumcari, NM, with the Rosary beginning at 10:15 am followed by the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. Father Cameron Degani will be celebrating the service.

Burial will follow at Tucumcari Memorial Park with David Stroud, Benny Reed, Geno Griego, Anthony Griego, Lorenzo Mata and Casey Jendusa serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will include; Angel Griego, Jr., Will Henderson, James Medina, Jr. and Alyshia Griego.

A reception will be held at the Elks Club, located at 2118 S. Adams St., Tucumcari, NM.
