Terry Velasquez

Terry Velasquez, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, in Albuquerque, NM. She was born on September 9, 1942, in Las Vegas, NM, to the cherished parents Cleodio and Helen (Bachicha) Rael. Terry graced this world with a spirit of love and devotion, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Terry's life was a remarkable journey marked by her unwavering faith as a lifelong Catholic and devoted parishioner of San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico, NM. On February 17, 1962, she entered into a sacred union of love and companionship with her husband, Emiterio Velasquez. Their 56 years together were a testament to their deep bond, filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories.

For many years, Terry and Emiterio resided in Roswell, NM, before retiring to their beloved Anton Chico. Wherever they lived, Terry's nurturing spirit thrived. Terry was known for her incredible talents and hobbies that brought joy to those around her. Her love for sewing was evident as she crafted exquisite baby blankets and cozy, regular-sized quilts that will forever be treasured by her family. Terry also had a passion for cooking and enjoyed the thrill and excitement of visits to the casinos.

Terry's legacy continues through her devoted family. She is survived by her children: Ernestine Velasquez of Anton Chico; Carrie Sue (Lionel) Garcia of Rio Rancho, NM; and her son, Kevin Velasquez of Pecos, NM. Her grandchildren, who brought her so much joy, include Guthrie (Alise) Ornelas; Dominic (Theresa) and Vanessa Ornelas; Brandon (Calista), Alexandra, and Karlos Velasquez; and Andres Garcia (Casey). Terry’s heart swells with pride for her great-grandchildren: Caleb, Ayden, Daesyn, Damien, Zayden, Agera, Theodore, and Charlotte. They will carry her memory forward in their hearts. Terry also leaves behind her sister, Bernice Tanuz (Jimmy) of Pecos, NM; her brothers, Joe Rael, Jr. of Tijeras, NM, and Freddy Rael of Anton Chico, NM; as well as her daughter-in-law, Sheila Lopez of Pecos, NM. She is survived by a host of nephews, nieces, and many family and friends, all of whom hold her in their hearts.

Terry is preceded in death by her loving husband, Emiterio Velasquez; her parents, Cleodio and Helen Rael; her dear grandson, Camden Garcia; and her siblings, Annie Encinias, Dora Padilla, Madeline Crist, Clara Robinson, and Cristobal Rael.

Recitation of The Most Holy Rosary, immediately followed by the Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, January 17, 2026 beginning at 10AM at San Jose Catholic Church in Anton Chico, with Reverend Timothy Meurer celebrating the service.

Interment of cremains will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Anton Chico with her husband, Emiterio.
