Cuervo, NM

Tony Maestas, 84 of Cuervo, NM, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on November 6, 2026.

Tony Maestas was a successful rancher, businessman, and proud lifelong resident of Cuervo, New Mexico. A man of unwavering faith, a strong work ethic, and deep roots in his community, Tony built a life defined by hard work, independence, and a genuine love for the people and land around him.

After graduating from Santa Rosa High School in 1960, Tony began working on ranches throughout the Cuervo area, developing the skills and knowledge that would shape his life's work. In 1962, he married the love of his life, Mary Lou. Together, they built a life, raised four daughters, and shared a lifetime of hard work, love, and dedication. Their partnership extended into business when, in 1970, they opened their own service station, cafe and towing business in Cuervo, New Mexico, along historic Route 66. Alongside their family business, Tony continued pursuing his greatest passion, ranching—a way of life he dedicated himself to until his passing.

Tony's greatest joys were ranching, hunting, and being part of the Cuervo community he loved so dearly. He especially loved his cattle and animals, taking great pride in caring for them and tending to his ranch. He also cherished his hunting trips with the Primos and his many friends.

A man of great faith and determination, Tony was known for his tireless work ethic and independent spirit.

Tony leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his businesses and ranch. It lives on in the family he and Mary Lou built, the friendships he cherished.
