William "Bruce" Franks

William “Bruce" Franks, age 73, of Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away on March 16, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. He fought a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico to William and Charlene Franks.

He had a wonderful childhood filled with riding bikes, playing sports, building forts, and playing with his cousins and friends. He loved playing football, basketball, and running track. At a young age he learned his strong work ethic from working at the family grocery store.

He attended New Mexico State University. While there, he joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity, where he met lifelong friends that would remain by his side until his final breaths. Bruce graduated with a degree in accounting and his CPA license. After graduating college, he moved to Albuquerque and began his career as a CPA. Bruce poured his heart into his job, and set a high standard for himself. He remained loyal to the company he worked for, and stayed there for over forty years.

In 1982 he married Carol Stevens. They had three daughters that he loved so very much. He cherished his role as a father and grandfather above all else. He never missed a sports game, practice, concert, or helping with homework. His children and grandchildren could always count on his love and support. Bruce was very active and loved to hike, ski, and was a devoted UNM Lobo basketball fan.

He is survived by his wife Carol, his sister Cynthia Hall, daughters Shannon Lyons (Shane), Allie Tanner (Luke), Jill Reisen (Matt) and grandchildren Cameron, Gavin, and Collette Lee and Eli and Brett Tanner. His great sense of humor will be missed by all. He always tried to bring laughter to everyone around him, including his doctors and nurses while he was in the hospital.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John’s Methodist Church of Albuquerque, First Baptist Church of Ft. Sumner, or Roadrunner Food Bank.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 10:00 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, in Albuquerque. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in the Franks family plot, Fort Sumner Cemetery, Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
