Gertrude Muniz

Gertrude Muniz, age 94, passed away October 30, 2003 at the Guadalupe County Hospital following an illness. Gertrude was born Novermber 26, 1908 in Montoya, New Mexico to the home of Leandro and Rosana Maez Muniz. She was reared in Montoya and made her home in Milagro in 1973. Gertrude was a lifelong cattle and sheep rancher and enjoyed working on her ranch. She also enjoyed Crocheting, making quilts and weaving. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Santa Rosa and Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Milagro. Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters Jesus Muniz, Jose Muniz, Antonio Muniz, Maria Alarid,Donciana Pacheco, her brothers in law Lorenzo Pacheco and Octaviano Alarid. Survivors include her sister Maria U. Muniz, her brother Leo Muniz and wife Rita and her niece Lucille Serrano and husband Enrico all of Milagro, her sisters in law Otlilia Muniz of Santa Rosa and Bennie Muniz of Rancho de Taos and her great niece Jessica Sanchez and husband Jimmy of Santa Rosa as well as a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Rosary services will be held on Sunday evening at 7:00 from St. Rose of Lima Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:00 also from St. Rose of Lima Church with Father Anthony Bolman officiating. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Sorrows Cemetery in Milagro. Serving as Pallbearers will be Joey Muniz, Michael Muniz, Ricardo Muniz, Melvin Johnson, Leroy Pacheco and Enrico Serrano. All services are entrusted to the Chavez Funeral Home of Santa Rosa.
